What We Heard From What Was Said
After listening to citizens of De Leon and Comanche County, the Resource Team reviewed what was said and condensed the comments down to a few basic statements:
- We need a focused master plan with a vision, goals, and time lines
- Need a beautification plan and a major clean up of DeLeon
- Need entertainment for all ages, especially the youth
- Infrastructure improvements, city streets, sewer lines, county roads
- Resistant to change, lack of organization, cooperation, leadership
- Agricultural community in transition
- We need housing that meets the needs of our Seniors as well as young couples and individuals that would like to live in DeLeon
- Initiate a pro-active regional approach to preservation of a local county hospital
- Need industry diversification, job creation and retention of youth in the community
- Need to utilize the resources of the retired people
- Need to address the growning drug, alcohol, and gang problem on a school and general public levels
The Resource Team also heard:
- Good schools, excellent hospital, good people, excellent churches, closeness of people in time of need, feel safe in DeLeon, natural resources, low crime rate, good family environment.
